Opinion: Why would C-TRAN Board members put the agency on the hook for $7.2 million annually if they don’t have to?‍

Editor Ken Vance of Clark County Today questions why C-TRAN board members would commit the agency to an annual $7.2 million for light rail costs when alternative funding might be available, as suggested by Interstate Bridge Replacement Program Administrator Greg Johnson. Vance highlights concerns about this financial burden on C-TRAN, especially as Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle pushes for C-TRAN's involvement in funding new bi-state transit. The article also touches on political factors, such as the removal of Councilor Michelle Belkot from the C-TRAN Board, which could influence future decisions, noting that the board has postponed its vote for three months pending the outcome of two lawsuits.

Rep. John Ley issues statement after recent Portland Metro memo regarding the use of light rail in the IBR project‍

Representative John Ley issued a statement concerning a recent Portland Metro memo regarding the use of light rail in the Interstate-5 Bridge Replacement (IBR) project. The memo indicates the project is not anticipated to increase transit usage, biking, or walking, nor will it reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Ley voiced his concerns that the IBR project fails to address traffic congestion, improve travel times, or achieve environmental objectives, questioning the rationale behind a $2 billion expenditure for a 1.8-mile light rail extension and suggesting the more economical alternative of repurposing existing bridges.

Washington State GOP Chairman's Update: Riots, Civil Order & Initiatives

This weekly update from Jim Walsh of the Washington State Republican Party focuses on two key issues. First, he addresses the anti-ICE protests and riots occurring in Washington and across the West Coast, attributing them to radical left groups like Indivisible and organizations backed by George Soros. He emphasizes the need for law enforcement, including the potential deployment of the National Guard, to maintain civil order.

Second, Walsh discusses Initiative 26-126, which aims to require proof of citizenship for voter registration in Washington State. He argues this is crucial for ensuring the integrity of voter rolls and increasing confidence in elections. He also highlights the party's commitment to supporting initiatives that reform public policy, even in the face of legislative or judicial challenges, citing the Parents Bill of Rights as an example. The WAGOP will continue to fight to fix what's broken in the state.

Two Tax Hikes Coming This Summer | Paul Guppy

This Washington Policy Center update highlights upcoming policy changes in Washington state, primarily focusing on new taxes taking effect this summer. Specifically, a 6-cent increase in the gas tax will make Washington's gas tax the third highest in the nation. Additionally, the state sales tax is expanding to include a range of services, potentially impacting economic activity.‍
