What is the issue? The La Center School Board, Superintendent, and Staff who have chosen to do the right thing by putting the Parent's Rights first; by not withholding information from parents and not mandating the usage of pronouns, but instead foster an inclusive environment by simply asking for a child's name instead of their pronoun. The policy does not mandate the question nor use of pronouns, but instead allows staff to use the students' preferred pronouns and names if the student requests.

SB 5181 Amending the parents rights initiative to bring it into alignment with existing law.
Some of the biggest changes the bill would make to 2081 center around parents’ access to their children’s medical records. It would remove the rights of parents to be notified when medical services are being offered to their child, including notifications when a school has arranged for medical treatment that results in follow-up care outside normal school hours. The bill passed with no Republicans in support.
