HB 1380 - Allowing objectively reasonable regulation of the utilization of public property.  Jan 28 Scheduled for executive session in the House Committee on Housing at 4:00 PM

Washington Democrats introduced another controversial bill that prevents cities and towns from limiting or banning homeless encampments, effectively legalizing them on public property statewide. Worse, it provides special legal advantages to homeless individuals, virtually guaranteeing court victories for those who challenge encampment restrictions. Read more from Jason Rantz here.

HB 1531 - Preserving the ability of public officials to address communicable diseases. Jan 31 Scheduled for public hearing in the House Committee on Health Care & Wellness at 8:00 AM

This bill aims to empower state and local health officials with unprecedented control over communicable disease management. Read more from the Conservative Ladies Of America here.

SB 5174 - Concerning wood burning devices. Jan 24  Public hearing in the Senate Committee on Environment, Energy & Technology at 10:30 AM

SB 5181- Would sabotage major sections of the parental-rights law, was hustled through the Senate Early Learning and K-12 Committee on Jan. 23. More information from Sen. John Braun here.

House Resolution No. 2025-4607 - WA House Democrats eliminated a 132-year-old rule that guaranteed free and open debate on the House floor.
By a 54-33 vote, Democrats lowered the supermajority 2/3 threshold required to end debate and vote on bills down to a simple majority. You can watch it here.

HB 1504 - Enhancing public safety by requiring financial responsibility to purchase or possess a firearm or operate a firearm range.

It is not a full county election

Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 22, Clark County Elections will mail ballots to all eligible registered voters for the Feb. 11, Special Election. If a voter does not receive a ballot by Thursday, Jan. 30, they should contact the Elections Office at (564) 397-2345 to request a replacement ballot. Read More here.

Board Of Health Extends Application Deadline For Education Position On Public Health Advisory Council‍

The term for the volunteer position begins as soon as it’s filled and ends Sept. 30, 2027. The application deadline is 5 pm Friday, Jan. 31, 2025. The Public Health Advisory Council meets 5:30-7:30 pm via Zoom on the fourth Tuesday of each month, except the month of December. One meeting each quarter will be in-person at locations across the county. Members may also join council committees that meet periodically throughout the year depending on committee scope and priorities. More details can be found here.
