Current CTRAN Board composition:
Vancouver- 3 seats, want 4 seats Clark County Council- 2 seats , want 3 seats
Michelle Belkot was removed from CTRAN board because she did not favor spending $ Billions to replace a working, affordable bus system over I-5 Bridge with a vastly more expensive light rail system for just a few riders. Ask to reinstate Michelle Belkot to the CTRAN board, and for Clark County to use seats for county districts that are NOT mainly Vancouver since Vancouver is demanding 4 seats. If the county gives their seats to a mostly Vancouver Council district, Vancouver will have a board majority which is not allowed.
Camas, Washougal, Battle Ground, Ridgefield+LaCenter+Yacolt -1 seat each
Small cities proposed 1 representative per 2 cities.
CTRAN Board Meeting at 5:30 PM- IBR presentations on light rail
Discussion: High Capacity Sub District such as Vancouver who could pay more for light rail than other areas.
Concerns: adding expensive light rail to the I-5 Bridge for very few riders for $BILLIONS in EXTRA UNJUSTIFIED building EXPENSES for costly trains, elevated tracks & stations in OR and 2 stations in Vancouver with associated Park and Rides, overhead electric cables for light rail.
2022 cost estimates of $2 Billion for 1.9 Miles of Light rail at least double in 2025. Buses can share a lane with freight and all other vehicles as they do today, light rail shares with no other vehicles. Few bus boardings over I-5 Bridge today than 20 years ago! Light rail- NOT required, NOT justified, NOT needed. Buses and vans offer efficient rides and share road lanes with freight and all other vehicles today, and can do so in the future. See article on low bus ridership over I-5 Bridge since 2006, plus IBR Models 2024 transit ridership, instead of using actual 2024 ridership data
Interstate Bridge Replacement’s Park & Ride insanity One of the most insane costs is $177 million for a 570 -space Waterfront Park & Ride Station at an estimated cost of $177 million, ~$310,000 per parking pace. IBR is also planning a $150 million, 770-space Evergreen Station Park and Ride a few blocks from the Waterfront station with Park and Ride.
British Columbia’s new immersed tunnel can solve Interstate Bridge Replacement Program’s $17.7 billion problem British Columbia plans to construct an immersed tunnel in five years. The IBR Project is projected to take 15 years.
Rep. John Ley says high capacity transit not needed for federal dollars as Brent Spence Bridge shows
