HB 1163 - Enhancing requirements relating to the purchase, transfer, and possession of firearms. Jan 21 Scheduled for public hearing in the House Committee on Civil Rights & Judiciary at 10:30 AM (Subject to change)

HB 1132 - Limiting bulk purchases and transfers of firearms and ammunition. Jan 21 Scheduled for public hearing in the House Committee on Civil Rights & Judiciary at 10:30 AM (Subject to change)

HB 1152 - Establishing secure storage requirements for firearms in vehicles and residences. Jan 21 Scheduled for public hearing in the House Committee on Civil Rights & Judiciary at 10:30 AM (Subject to change).

HB 1386 - Imposing a new tax on firearms, firearm parts, and ammunition. Jan 21 Scheduled for public hearing in the House Committee on Finance at 8:00 AM in anticipation of other legislative action.

SB 5099 - Establishing additional requirements for the business operations of licensed firearms dealers. Jan 21 Scheduled for public hearing in the Senate Committee on Law & Justice at 8:00 AM (Subject to change).

HB 1296 - Promoting a safe and supportive public education system. Jan 23    Scheduled for public hearing in the House Committee on Education at 8:00 AM (Subject to change).

SB 5181 - Amending the parents rights initiative to bring it into alignment with existing law. Suggested to Register a CON position before Tuesday, 1/21.

SB 5141‍ Requiring that experience-rated group disability income insurers include all applicable rating factors and credibility formulas in rate manual filings with the insurance commissioner. Jan 23 Scheduled for public hearing in the Senate Committee on Business, Financial Services & Trade at 8:00 AM (Subject to change).

This WA bill would offer unemployment benefits to immigrants not authorized to work in U.S. More information here.

SB 5271‍ Requiring school districts of the first class to employ a school nurse. (not scheduled yet)

February 11, 2025 Special Election‍

It is not a full county election

Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 22, Clark County Elections will mail ballots to all eligible registered voters for the Feb. 11, Special Election. If a voter does not receive a ballot by Thursday, Jan. 30, they should contact the Elections Office at (564) 397-2345 to request a replacement ballot. Read More here.

County Council seeks volunteers for new Agricultural Advisory Commission‍

The purpose of the commission is to provide reviews and recommendations to the County Manager, County Council, the Planning Commission and other appropriate boards and commissions on issues that affect agriculture in Clark County. Application deadline is 5 pm Friday, Jan. 24, 2025.Details can be found here.

Board Of Health Extends Application Deadline For Education Position On Public Health Advisory Council‍

The term for the volunteer position begins as soon as it’s filled and ends Sept. 30, 2027. The application deadline is 5 pm Friday, Jan. 31, 2025. The Public Health Advisory Council meets 5:30-7:30 pm via Zoom on the fourth Tuesday of each month, except the month of December. One meeting each quarter will be in-person at locations across the county. Members may also join council committees that meet periodically throughout the year depending on committee scope and priorities. More details can be found here.
