Bill # 1735

Official Bill Title:

Modifying the standard for use of force by peace officers.

Un-Official Bill Title

Almost reinstituting the Supreme Court Ruling on Police proper use of force circumstances.

House Bill 1735 is really about unraveling the messes made last year by the Democrats bills that tied the hands of police.

Why this matters

House Bill 1735 matters because the Supreme Court had already ruled on language and its definition with regards to the proper and reasonable use of police force. The bills passed last year did not meet that standard and the police have been unable to insist that a perpetrator be calm and submit to an arrest. This has made for one of the worst years in public safety in our state. We have to return to the proper standards or we fail to protect our families and property. We will start an even larger escalation of police officers leaving our force. This bill passed the house and is in the Senate Law and Justice Committee. There was a public hearing on the 8th and so now the ONLY thing you can do is email all members of the committee before the executive session on the 17th at 8 am. Please speak up today as this bill, while not perfect, has a chance of improvement and passing the senate with strong amendments.
